Licensed Point-to-Point Service
Licensed Point-to-Point Service provides a frequency-coordinated and FCC-licensed dedicated microwave link between the customer premises and the Gatespeed network backbone.
Each link is custom engineered for maximum performance. Depending on the distance to the Gatespeed point-of-presence and channel availability, a microwave band of 6, 11, 18, or 23 GHz is selected along with compatible radios and antennas. On bands subject to rain attenuation, part of the engineering process is to ensure that margins are sufficient such that weather will not adversely affect the connection. A typical link uses full-duplex radios capable of 100 Mbps over the air and 1-4 foot diameter dish antennas at each end.
Microwave path coordination and FCC licensing can add 30-45 days to the installation timeline (expedited licensing is sometimes available.) Gatespeed can provide temporary unlicensed service until the licensing process in complete.
The process of obtaining a high-performance dedicated licensed microwave connection to the Internet begins by contacting Gatespeed for a site survey.

Notes
- *Installation charges vary depending on antenna requirements and maximum radio throughput. Additional charges may apply for special installation engineering and/or expedited licensing.
- Installation includes radios, antennas, and the port at the Gatespeed POP. The interface provided is Ethernet. The customer is responsible for providing (or purchasing from Gatespeed) a compatible router. All equipment included with the installation remains the property of Gatespeed.
- Listed Connection and Committed Bandwidth prices are for a 12-month term commitment. The maximum available instantaneous bandwidth between the customer premises and the Gatespeed network is limited by the radio speed (which may be set below the maximum over-the-air rate of the radio, depending on how the link is engineered).
- Bandwidth used is measured as the 95th percentile level usage over 5-minute periods.
- Burst bandwidth is defined as the measured bandwidth minus the included and committed bandwidth, rounded up to the next whole megabit/second.
- Backup service is only available if another Internet connection is already installed at the customer location.
